The WWW resources section of the CRC is a jumping off point to find more information about materials science on the web. We've organized our list into five categories. These are geared towards what background you may have, and what you might be looking for:

List of Materials Science Indices

These sites contain a list of web site addresses which have an index for other sites involving materials and materials science.

  • The Materials Science Category in Yahoo!
    This is the list of sites categorized by the Yahoo! web search engine involving materials science. This page contains an alphabetical list of sites that are directly related to materials science, and a list of subtopics for a more precise search.

  • The Professional Engineering Organizations Category in Yahoo!
    This site is also from the Yahoo! search engine, involving professional engineering organizations. This site does not have a direct link to a materials science group, but many of the engineering organizations listed do deal with materials science engineering.

  • The List of Commercial Materials Sites on ASM International
    This is a site compiled by ASM international. otherwise know as the American Society for Metals. This site contains an alphabetical list of companies and databases involved with all levels and types of materials.

  • Ceramics.com
    This is a comprehensive site developed by the Ceramic Consulting Group. They have a section called "List of Resources," which is a list of companies in the ceramic industry organized similar to the ASM site. Unlike the other sites in this group, however, they also have a section called "Other Cool Stuff," which supplies information about the ceramic industry on anything from Government and Financial information to Weather and Museums.

  • The Composites Corner
    A huge compilation of corporate sites dealing with composites. A simple site featuring only links to companies' web sites listed alphabetically by name, with any subsidiary companies.

    A totally free access materials knowledge base and news service for the engineering, design and materials community worldwide. AZoM's content covers the whole spectrum of Metals, Ceramics, Polymers and Composites, with both news and technical data.

  • http://www.careercornerstone.org
    The Sloan Career Cornerstone web site helps to make informed career decisions based on the typical day-to-day experiences of those already working in the technical fields of engineering, mathematics, and the physical sciences. This on-line resource includes video clips, salary information, networking tips and more.

  • http://www.att.com/microscapes/
    T his is a look at the world of materials as seen through the eyes of a microscope. This site contains a collection of images of materials with captions explaining the interesting shapes and colors.

  • http://www.dupont.com/
    This is the official site of the DuPont chemical company. For people interested in finding employment, this site contains career opportunity information. But, for those just interested in learning more about materials, the DuPont ONLINE magazine has several interesting articles.

  • http://www.guidemenacme.org/
    NACME leads the national effort to increase the number of minorities involved in engineering. NACME is also the nation's largest private source of scholarships for minorities in engineering. The NACME OnLine Guide provides information regarding selecting an engineering school and general information regarding the world of engineering.

  • The Semiconductor Story
    This site gives a good introductory level description of microchip fabrication. It discusses both how chips are made and how they are used. It provides a good start for anyone who wants to learn about microchip fabrication.

    This is a site which is set up to teach about various concepts in materials science. It is largely unfinished, but looks to be a great resource for the future. The areas of discussion are quite broad and comprehensive.

  • http://www.chips.ibm.com/
    An introduction to microchips site supported by IBM. It contains educational material about microchips and how they are made. Plus, it contains updated information on the latest technologies available from IBM.

  • New!http://www.engr.sjsu.edu/WofMatE/
    A general introduction to materials and commercial materials research. Topics include opportunities, metals and alloys, polymers, composites, semiconductors, biomaterials, materials characterization, concept of structure, and failure analysis. Information on these topics includes basic definitions, general background with images, and some industrial links.

    This is the official site of the DuPont chemical company. For people interested in finding employment, this site contains career opportunity information. But, for those just interested in learning more about materials, the DuPont ONLINE magazine has several interesting articles.

    This is the official site for the plastics division of GE. It has a lot of good information about who the company is, and what they produce. It also has a tour of the world of thermal plastics, and for you technologically advanced people there is a QTVR tour of a concept house.

    This is a data base site referring the field of finishing i.e. platings, coatings, surface finishings like those. It contains a chat room for discussions about the field, a list of organizations serving the finishing industry, a job listing, a list of current events in the field, and technical reference section, and a list of related links. This site contains lots of good information for anyone interested in the field of finishing.

    This site databases companies involved in the metal products and services. They are organized in an alphabetical listing and also grouped by function or service. The site does not seem to contain educational information, merely reference to companies in the field.

  • http://www.automatrix.com:80/moec/
    The Molecular OptoElectronics Corporation is a company involved with developing and manufacturing optoelectronic materials and technologies i.e. fiberoptics. This site has good information about the company and any career opportunities they currently offer. It also contains a rather technical discussion of the materials, describing them chemically and functionally.

    The society of vacuum coaters is an organization designed as a resource for the vacuum deposition industry.

    The US Department of Energy, Division of Materials Sciences.

  • Career Mosaic
    Career Mosaic's big attraction for people interested in making a job change is the opportunity to search its J.O.B.S. database, which lists around 70,000 job listings. Its Employers section allows you to look up the profiles of hundreds of prospective employers, while ResumeCM allows you to post your resume. Career Resource Center provides tips on job-hunting, resume writing, and links to dozens of other web sites that pertain to a wide variety of job search needs.

    Netline Corporation offers this extensive listing of links to recommended employment areas on the Web.

  • Companies Online
    This site is Dun and Bradstreet's guide to companies online. You can browse through Featured Companies of the Week and browse by Industry. Or Search by Criteria (enter the company name, city, state, industry) and retrieve street address, phone number, type of industry, and a listing of web sites.

    Tinytechjobs is a career web site devoted to industrial and academic jobs in nanotechnology and nanoscience. The job site is interdisciplinary, encompassing fields such as chemistry, physics, materials science, mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering, biology, MEMS, information technology, optics and other relevant fields. The site also features non-technical job postings, such as business development, legal (IP and patents), sales, marketing, and administrative positions.
