The perfect human, modified
Graphic by Mike Atwell
The human body is the most complex machine on Earth. And just like all other machines, sometimes it breaks down. With the more active lifestyle that people are enjoying these days, having some sort of reconstruction done is a relatively common occurrence. Materials scientists, working in close conjunction with members of the medical field, have developed modern solutions for the many needs of repair or replacement for parts of our bodies. These solutions may be as simple as finding new materials to be used for fillings in teeth, or as complex as a knee joint which brings together many specialized needs. Whatever it may be, advances in MSE are helping us to keep moving and feeling like new...or better.
