When you have a long way to go and cannot carry the extra weight of steel or other materials, aluminum is the high-strength answer, and has been for a long time. In fact, many of the Alcoa ALCALYTE brand alloys used in the bicycle industry were initially developed for the NASA program and other aerospace applications.

Throughout the world, these alloys and their derivitives are bringing low-weight, high performance components to the bicycle industry. Plus, Alcoa works with bike frame and component manufactures through the largest light-metals research center in the world, the Alcoa Technical Center, in Alcoa Center, Pennsylvania. Here, more than 1,000 Alcoa scientists, engineers, and light-metals technology experts work to make better aluminum products for the future.
