| Cars are changing for many reasons. Fuel shortages, dirty air,
global warming - all of these have brought government controls
to the auto industry. But some auto makers have decided to take
destiny into their own hands - and be proactive instead of reactive.
The Ford P2000 and Synergy 2010 are future vehicles that are being designed today by Materials
Science Engineers. The MSE field is helping to bring advances
such as new propulsion systems (hybrid electric systems containing
internal combustion (IC), gas turbines, or fuel cells are all
in development), aluminum unibody construction, and low-rolling
resistance tires. These advances will make cars of the future
go farther on fuel, have much less emissions, and run quieter
than today's vehicles. |
